We have all thought about this one time or another, don't deny it! That is "How do I lose weight without going to the gym?" This is a perfectly good question that deserves an answer. So honestly, straight off the bat eating right and having a routine activity in your life is important. They go together hand in hand. A bodybuilder isn't going to build their dream body off of fast food and junk food. Junk food is junk for your body.

1. Be a conscious eater.
You should be taking the time to plan your meals ideally a week in advance, if not, aim for 3 days. Go to the grocery store before you start your new week and buy everything that you have on your menu. Consciously think about what you are purchasing. If you are reaching for the Oreos and the chips more than fresh fruits and vegetables you need to re-evaluate your eating habits.
2. Incorporate an active activity into your life.
This should be done at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes or more. My personal favourites are salsa with a partner or tango. They are a less conventional ways but they still burn the calories! Swimming, jogging or seasonal activities such as snowboarding or golf are also great.
3. Don't be too strict on yourself.
Many of my clients have tried a no carbohydrates diet such as the Atkins Diet and found that once they stopped they gained all their weight back. No or low carbohydrate diets actually can worsen carbohydrates cravings, slow metabolism and result in weight regain. It's all about moderation and control.
4. Hydrate.
With water, not pop or any beverages with lots of refined sugars such as juice. When your body needs water and is dehydrated, it will automatically slow your metabolic rate down, just as a lack of food will. Also, your liver which is in charge of metabolism related duties will turn its concentration towards water retention instead of attending to other duties such as burning fat.
5. Never skip meals.
Ideally we should all be eating at least 4 meals a day. That way we wouldn't be stuffing ourselves every 2 to 3 meals and shoving junk food down our throats every time we get cravings. Frequent meals also mean that your body is burning off calories at a consistent and more constant rate.
